Senior Sessions: When? How? What else?

Hey there, seniors (and parents)! Getting ready to graduate and move on to bigger and better things? It's time to celebrate this milestone with a senior session that captures everything unique about you. Whether you’re stoked about sharing your achievements or a proud parent wanting to immortalize this special time, here's a friendly guide to make sure your session rocks!

Quick Questions to Ask Yourself - if you read nothing else, read these!

  • What kind of vibe are you thinking? (Urban/city? Fields? River? Studio? etc)

  • Do you play sports? Which ones do you want to include? Each sport typically takes a minimum of 15-20 minutes to photograph. We offer 30 or 60 minute sessions.

  • How many sessions are you thinking? Is it better to do separate sessions for the sports and/or casual photos?

  • Do you have after school activities or a job? We only do senior sessions during the week, but we always do our best to accommodate everyone's schedules.

  • Will you want to do a cap and gown session in the spring?

  • How about drape or suit/tux photos?

Taking the time to answer these questions will help you and your photographer plan a session that's perfectly tailored to your personality and interests, resulting in photos you'll love! If you don't have all the answers, that's absolutely fine. It's a great place to start, though!

What’s a Senior Photography Session All About?

A senior photography session is a personalized photo shoot that showcases your personality, interests, and achievements. Whether you're into sports, art, music, or just hanging out with friends, this is your chance to shine! Your photos can be casual or formal, indoors or outdoors—it's all about capturing who you are right now.

How Do Senior Photography Sessions Work?

  1. Find Your Photographer: Start by finding a photographer whose style matches your vision. Do you love candid shots, fine art vibes, or bright, energetic photos? Check out their portfolio, read reviews, and have a quick chat to see if it’s a good fit. We are open arms here at Sweet Lemon, and would love to hear any ideas you have or give you ours if you book with us!

  2. Pick a Date: We will schedule your session for the best natural light, usually early morning or late afternoon around sunset. Make sure it works with your schedule so you're not rushed or stressed.

  3. How long will my session last?: We offer 30 or 60 minute sessions. Depending on what all you're wanting to include, we can make a game plan.

  4. Plan Your Session: Talk with your photographer about your ideas, likes, and dislikes. We will discuss locations, themes, and outfits that represent you. The more we understand your vibe, the more custom your photos will be! If you don't have any ideas, and want a simple sessions, your only work is to pick outfits that you like! Super easy!

  5. Where will my session take place?: Along with getting to know your vision for your senior portraits, we’ll chat about location. I have an arsenal of location ideas, I just need to know your style! If you love an urban feel, we can go to a downtown area. Like nature? We can go to the lake or to a park with a natural setting. If you love a mix of both, we can do both. You have the freedom to choose a location that really matches your personality and style. Maybe you saw some photos we have taken and you like the vibe! Let us know and if we can go to that location, we will!

  6. The Day of the Shoot: Show up with your wardrobe and props ready to go. As your photographer, we will guide you through poses and make you feel comfy in front of the camera. You don't need to know how to do anything! We will help out with everything!

  7. Select & Edit Your Photos: After the shoot, we will edit the images and email your gallery. Pick your favorites for prints or digital sharing. You can order right from the online gallery from our professional print company or take the digital images wherever you'd like to have them printed.

When Should You Schedule Your Senior Photography Session? **Our schedule books up about 3-4 months in advance, so don't wait!

  • Summer/Fall Before Senior Year: The summer before and fall are the most popular time for senior photos. Get your photos done early so you can use them for yearbooks, announcements, and holiday cards. Plus, summer and fall offer gorgeous natural backdrops.

  • Winter: If you're wanting some snowy pictures, let us know! We will get you in our books for the winter season, and we will do our best to get together once it snows.
